Choose the correct equipment type
Portable scooters usually dismantle or fold for transport and may fit smaller lifts or hotel storage areas. Larger pavement-style scooters commonly provide a more supportive seat, greater stability, better ground clearance and a larger battery. They can, however, be too wide or long for lifts, bedrooms, taxis and tight restaurant spaces. Ask for the actual make and model rather than accepting a broad description such as “small” or “large”.
Match the equipment to the traveller and accommodation
Give the provider the user’s weight, height, balance, walking ability and any difficulty operating a tiller. Describe expected daily distances, gradients, road crossings and surfaces. Measure the narrowest hotel doorway and lift, including the turning space outside them. Confirm where the scooter may be securely parked and charged without obstructing an escape route.

Published range is normally measured under favourable test conditions. Hills, heat, user weight, tyre pressure, battery age, frequent stops and carrying luggage can reduce practical range, so plan with a generous reserve.
Can a mobility scooter go in a hotel lift?
Only if its dimensions, weight and turning circle suit the exact lift and approach. Ask the hotel for clear door width, internal dimensions and weight limit, then compare them with the supplier’s specification.
Is a portable scooter suitable for a hilly resort?
