John Greenan co-founded Mobility Abroad with his brother James in 2001 after their father, who had become an amputee at the age of 49, encountered serious practical barriers when holidaying on the Costa del Sol.
Experience built through real deliveries
From its premises in Benalmádena, Mobility Abroad grew from approximately 20 scooters and 20 wheelchairs to a fleet exceeding 40 of each, alongside powerchairs, hoists, commodes, bath equipment and walking aids. John delivered equipment to hotels, apartments and villas across a service area stretching from Almuñécar to Duquesa.
The work involved much more than taking reservations. It included matching equipment to travellers and resort terrain, organising hotel handovers, resolving charging problems, attending breakdowns and improving the fleet in response to recurring issues—for example, adopting puncture-proof tyres.
From the Costa del Sol to a wider network
John helped develop relationships with approximately ten or more providers across mainland Spain, Portugal, Mallorca, Tenerife, Lanzarote and Florida. Mobility Abroad became a central online point through which travellers could arrange equipment before leaving home.
