John Greenan founded Mobility Abroad on the Costa del Sol in 2001 and spent the following decade developing a practical mobility-equipment service for holidaymakers.
Building the Mobility Abroad network
What began on the Costa del Sol expanded through relationships with local operators in resorts across mainland Spain, the Balearic and Canary Islands, Portugal, Cyprus and, eventually, Florida. Travellers could arrange scooters, wheelchairs, commodes, hoists and other equipment through a central booking service, with delivery handled locally at their destination.
Mobility Abroad today
Mobility Abroad is now an independent accessible-travel information and referral website. It does not take mobility-equipment bookings or customer payments. John’s operational experience informs the questions the guides encourage travellers to ask about equipment, terrain, delivery, accommodation and breakdown support.
Why the guidance is practical
The site focuses on the details that affect a real holiday: the route outside the hotel, lift and doorway measurements, local gradients, charging, delivery timing and what happens if equipment develops a fault. Providers and facilities must still be checked directly because availability and accessibility can change.
