A flight search finds journeys and fares. Your holiday plan also needs to connect the aircraft arrival with assistance, a suitable vehicle and access to the accommodation.
Check the arrival airport, not just the resort name
A booking search may show several airports serving a broad holiday region. Compare each with the transfer you can actually book. Give the transfer operator your chair or scooter dimensions, its weight, the luggage count and whether you must remain seated in the wheelchair. Ask for the complete price, meeting point and procedure if assistance or baggage delivery takes longer than expected.
Speak to the operating airline
The UK Civil Aviation Authority advises providing the make, model, size, weight and battery details of powered mobility equipment in advance and checking airline restrictions. Use the airline operating each sector, including a connecting flight, rather than relying solely on the name of the booking website. Read the CAA equipment guidance and obtain the airline’s own confirmation.
Make the arrival time workable
A late flight can affect reception access, equipment handover and meals. Ask who will meet you if the flight changes and where essential equipment will be left. Avoid an arrangement that depends on a shop or reception closing shortly after the scheduled landing. Tell each supplier who should be contacted when arrival is delayed.
Plan the return before you go
Work backwards from the airline’s required arrival time. Agree equipment collection without leaving you unable to reach the transfer vehicle, and confirm where you will use a suitable toilet before departure. Keep a copy of the assistance and transfer references offline. Recheck arrangements if the airline changes an airport or schedule.
