The Costa Brava extends from Blanes towards the French border and is a chain of separate towns, bays, coves and headlands rather than one continuous resort. Its scenery and historic character are major attractions, but they also make town and accommodation selection particularly important for mobility-aid users.
Which part should you choose?
Lloret de Mar has the largest hotel and entertainment offer; Blanes combines a working town with a long waterfront; Tossa de Mar is defined by its walled old quarter. Platja d’Aro and Palamós provide substantial central facilities, L’Estartit and L’Escala open onto broader bays, and Empuriabrava and Roses form important northern resort bases.
Terrain and realistic accessibility
Level promenades exist, but headlands interrupt many coastal routes and the famous camins de ronda are not general wheelchair paths. Historic centres, coves and hillside hotels may involve cobbles, steps and severe gradients. Assess each planned circuit rather than judging the entire coast.
No coast or town is universally accessible. Check the continuous route needed by the individual traveller, including crossings, gradients, surfaces, shade and accessible toilets.
Accommodation planning
Large resorts provide more supplier choice and transport, while smaller bays can offer a quieter holiday with greater dependence on the hotel. Check the exact beach district, external slope, lift, bathroom and route to restaurants. Sea views frequently indicate elevation.
Airports and accessible transfers
Girona–Costa Brava Airport is convenient when a suitable flight operates; Barcelona is much farther from northern resorts. Package descriptions must identify the airport and transfer type. Reserve accessible vehicles and allow for slower coastal-road journeys.
Mobility scooter and wheelchair hire
Supplier territories can be narrow. Confirm the precise municipality, delivery charge, weekend support and replacement arrangements. Equipment should suit the surfaces and gradients actually planned, while a taxi or adapted vehicle remains the correct choice for unsuitable headland routes.
Use the individual resort guides
The guides below separate towns and resort districts that are often grouped together in brochures. Each covers local terrain, accommodation questions, transport and equipment delivery.
