About Cyprus
Cyprus combines warm-water beach holidays with archaeological sites, historic towns and a long season. The principal visitor centres are distributed across the island, so airport, resort and transfer arrangements must be considered together. Conditions also differ between the Republic of Cyprus and North Cyprus.
Paphos offers a harbour and major archaeological heritage; Limassol has a long modern waterfront; Larnaca combines a compact seafront with airport proximity; Ayia Napa and Protaras focus more strongly on beaches and seasonal entertainment. Many ancient sites have uneven outdoor surfaces even where visitor improvements exist.
Who might enjoy Cyprus
The island can suit relaxed hotel-based breaks, but pavement continuity and dropped kerbs are inconsistent. Summer heat considerably reduces comfortable travel distances. Choose accommodation close to the facilities actually needed and pre-arrange specialist transport and equipment.
A good holiday depends on the relationship between the traveller, the exact accommodation and the routes they intend to use. Our guidance avoids describing an entire destination as simply “accessible”.
Cyprus offers coastal resorts, archaeological sites and long-stay accommodation across two main visitor regions.
Terrain and getting around
Pavement continuity, kerbs and gradients vary more than resort marketing may suggest. Heat and sun exposure also affect realistic travel distance.
Accessibility is personal: distance, gradient, surface, heat and crowding affect travellers differently. Trace the complete route from the accommodation to the places that matter, including the return journey.
Choosing where to stay
Paphos, Limassol, Larnaca and Ayia Napa are distinct bases. Choose by airport, terrain and the facilities needed rather than island-wide descriptions.
Ask for the narrowest doorway, lift dimensions, bathroom transfer space, bed height and a step-free route to every hotel facility that will be used. Obtain important commitments in writing.
Airport transfers and local transport
Nearest airport: Larnaca or Paphos Airport. Confirm the correct airport and transfer duration before booking. Remain-in-wheelchair vehicles may need significant notice.
Tell the transfer company whether the traveller can move into a vehicle seat or must remain in the wheelchair. Provide chair or scooter dimensions, combined weight, companion numbers and luggage details.
Mobility equipment hire
Mobility Abroad no longer accepts bookings or payments. We provide independent preparation information and links to selected providers so travellers can arrange equipment directly.
Confirm model, safe user weight, dimensions, charging, delivery, collection, damage cover and breakdown support. Match the equipment to the local terrain and the accommodation rather than selecting by price alone.
Practical local advice
Ask equipment providers to confirm their delivery and breakdown area because island-wide coverage should not be assumed.
