Alcúdia is the historic walled town at the northern end of Mallorca, distinct from the beach resort of Port d’Alcúdia. Its market, old streets and Roman heritage make it rewarding for a shorter visit, but historic surfaces demand more planning than the nearby seafront.
This guide covers Alcúdia specifically. Nearby towns and coastal resorts have separate Mobility Abroad pages because their terrain, distances and delivery arrangements are different.
What is there to see and do?
The medieval walls, gates, Plaça de la Constitució, twice-weekly market and the remains of Roman Pollentia form the main visitor circuit. Cafés and small shops cluster inside the walls, while the port and beach are a separate journey rather than an extension of the old-town route.
Terrain and getting around
Stone paving, narrow lanes, thresholds and busy market-day crowds can make progress slower for wheelchair and scooter users. Routes around the outside of the walls are generally simpler than every lane inside them, and the old town should not be confused with the flatter port promenade.
Check important routes in both directions and allow for heat, crowds, temporary street furniture and the reduction in usable battery range caused by gradients or long days.
Where to stay
Choose the old town for atmosphere and the port for beach access and a more resort-like daily routine. Anyone staying within the walls should request exact entrance, lift and bathroom details because many buildings are conversions.
Request measurements and current photographs of the entrance, lift, bedroom, bathroom, pool route and public pavement. A general “accessible room” label is not enough.
Airport transfers
Palma de Mallorca Airport is roughly across the island. Pre-book an appropriate transfer and distinguish clearly between Alcúdia town and Port d’Alcúdia when giving the address.
Mobility equipment hire in Alcúdia
A compact scooter or correctly fitted manual wheelchair can suit a measured old-town visit, whereas longer journeys towards the port need a realistic battery reserve and a safe route agreed in advance.
Give the supplier the full street and property access instructions; vehicle access within the historic centre can be restricted at certain times.
Before confirming the holiday
- Pin the exact accommodation and usable entrance.
- Match equipment to the user, route, gradients and storage.
- Confirm delivery, collection and breakdown response in writing.
- Recheck seasonal beach and attraction access shortly before travel.
