Planning the resort, accommodation and mobility equipment together creates a more independent holiday.

The Costa Tropical occupies Granada’s Mediterranean shoreline between the Costa del Sol and Almería. It is a smaller, less uniform holiday region, with established resorts, working towns, hillside old quarters and quieter coastal communities framed by mountains close to the sea.

Which part should you choose?

Almuñécar has the broadest tourism offer, several beaches and a substantial town centre. La Herradura curves around a sheltered bay. Salobreña’s white old town rises dramatically above newer coastal districts, while Motril is the principal working town and port. Castell de Ferro and La Rábita provide quieter eastern bases with fewer specialist services.

Terrain and realistic accessibility

Mountains meet the coast throughout this region. Individual promenades and beachfront roads can be manageable, but routes inland often rise quickly. Pebble or coarse-sand beaches, steep historic quarters and isolated accommodation approaches need separate assessment rather than a single regional accessibility label.

No coast or town is universally accessible. Check the continuous route needed by the individual traveller, including crossings, gradients, surfaces, shade and accessible toilets.

Accommodation planning

Almuñécar and Motril provide the widest everyday services. A seafront location may reduce gradients, whereas a scenic hillside address can create dependence on adapted taxis. Request a continuous access video from vehicle drop-off to the room and pool or beach route.

Airports and accessible transfers

Málaga Airport normally offers the widest UK flight choice; Granada Airport can be closer to parts of the province. Transfers are by road and can be lengthy. Confirm whether the operator crosses provincial boundaries and whether the passenger remains in their wheelchair.

Mobility scooter and wheelchair hire

Local hire coverage is thinner than on the central Costa del Sol. Confirm where the supplier and replacement stock are based, the delivery surcharge and realistic breakdown response before paying. Select equipment around named gradients and the exact property.

Use the individual resort guides

The guides below separate towns and resort districts that are often grouped together in brochures. Each covers local terrain, accommodation questions, transport and equipment delivery.
