About Tenerife
Tenerife combines busy southern resorts, traditional northern towns and dramatic volcanic scenery. Most accessible-holiday demand centres on Los Cristianos, Playa de las Américas and Costa Adeje, where accommodation, restaurants and mobility services are widely available, but even these adjoining resorts contain major changes of level.
Visitors can enjoy long interconnected promenades, beaches, harbour activity, shopping and evening entertainment. Teide, whale-watching trips, Siam Park and island tours are popular excursions; access depends on the venue, transport and the traveller’s transfer ability and should be checked directly.
Who might enjoy Tenerife
Los Cristianos has a working-town feel and ferry port, Las Américas is livelier, and Costa Adeje ranges from seafront hotels to elevated developments. Hotel elevation matters more than resort name. Confirm whether flights use Tenerife South or North before comparing transfers.
A good holiday depends on the relationship between the traveller, the exact accommodation and the routes they intend to use. Our guidance avoids describing an entire destination as simply “accessible”.
Southern Tenerife has year-round tourism, established mobility services and several large resort areas.
Terrain and getting around
Costa Adeje, Playa de las Américas and Los Cristianos contain both level promenades and steep connecting streets. A hotel’s elevation can transform the practical experience.
Accessibility is personal: distance, gradient, surface, heat and crowding affect travellers differently. Trace the complete route from the accommodation to the places that matter, including the return journey.
Choosing where to stay
Los Cristianos offers ferry links and a working town atmosphere; Costa Adeje and Las Américas vary from flat seafront hotels to sharply rising inland properties.
Ask for the narrowest doorway, lift dimensions, bathroom transfer space, bed height and a step-free route to every hotel facility that will be used. Obtain important commitments in writing.
Airport transfers and local transport
Nearest airport: Tenerife South Airport. Confirm the arrival airport because Tenerife has two. Road transfer from the northern airport to southern resorts is substantially longer.
Tell the transfer company whether the traveller can move into a vehicle seat or must remain in the wheelchair. Provide chair or scooter dimensions, combined weight, companion numbers and luggage details.
Mobility equipment hire
Mobility Abroad provides independent, practical guidance and links to selected local providers, helping travellers arrange suitable equipment with confidence. Hire and payment are completed directly with the chosen provider.
Confirm model, safe user weight, dimensions, charging, delivery, collection, damage cover and breakdown support. Match the equipment to the local terrain and the accommodation rather than selecting by price alone.
Practical local advice
Ask a local provider whether the selected scooter is suitable for the gradients around the exact hotel and planned daily routes.
Before booking Tenerife
- Check the exact hotel street and surrounding gradients.
- Request room, bathroom and lift measurements.
