Old-town atmosphere and time by the sea
Estepona combines a traditional Andalusian town with a coastal holiday setting. The old streets and squares provide a different atmosphere from a large resort complex, while the seafront offers a natural focus for relaxed days. Choose it for the experience you want outside the room: browsing, meals out and a town-based stay, or a hotel holiday with occasional trips into the centre.
Central Estepona is not the whole resort area
An accommodation listing may use Estepona for a property some distance from the centre. Establish whether restaurants, a shop and the waterfront can be reached on the route you would actually use with a wheelchair or scooter. Ask for the route from the accessible entrance, because the entrance shown in the main photograph may involve steps. Check road crossings before assuming that a property on the opposite side of a major road offers convenient beach access.
Plan the old town in manageable sections
For a first outing, select one square or café rather than attempting every attraction. Ask about surface changes, slopes and the last few metres to the entrance. Cobbled or decorative paving can be tiring even where a route has no steps. A manual wheelchair user may prefer shorter circuits and planned rest stops; a scooter user needs somewhere appropriate to park without blocking pedestrians or restaurant access.
Apartments, transfers and wider outings
Self-catering can make meal times flexible, but confirm the lift, bedroom approach and bathroom before comparing prices. For a coastal complex, establish how luggage and hired equipment reach the unit from reception. Agree the exact drop-off with the airport transfer company and a fallback contact for a late arrival. If visiting Marbella or another resort, check the return transport as carefully as the outward journey so a change of plan does not leave you dependent on an unconfirmed accessible vehicle.
