Choose La Cala for its coastal centre

La Cala de Mijas offers a coastal base within the wider Mijas municipality. It should be distinguished from the inland village of Mijas and from other developments marketed under Mijas Costa. The attraction of a town-based stay is having meals, shopping and the sea within a manageable routine. The beach is known as La Cala or La Butibamba; use the exact location when asking a host about local access.

Check which side of the road you will stay

Do not assess an apartment by its straight-line distance to the beach. Ask for a description of the route from the building entrance, including crossings, gradients, lifts and any footbridge or underpass. A larger development can also have changes of level between parking, the apartment and its pool. Confirm that the usable entrance is available independently, rather than requiring reception staff every time you leave.

Use the coastal path selectively

The coastal path is a reason to explore this part of the coast, but it should not be treated as one continuously suitable mobility route. Ask the tourist office about the particular section, current works and the access at both ends. Boardwalk transitions, narrow passing places and sand can change the experience. Start with a short return trip and leave enough battery reserve for a diversion rather than relying on the quoted maximum range.

Make self-catering work day to day

Ask where groceries can be bought or delivered, how a taxi can meet you and where equipment may be charged. For a beach outing, check the nearest current assistance point separately from the apartment’s own accessibility. When comparing a hotel with an apartment, include the cost and practicality of repeated transfers: a less expensive hillside stay may require a vehicle for activities you expected to do independently.

Put the plans together

Use our holiday-apartment checks and flight and transfer planning guide before paying. If you need hired equipment, agree the model, delivery address and replacement arrangements directly with the supplier.
